bench press

Steve Haggerty, human performance specialist, Parkview Sports Medicine, takes us through the technique pitfalls you want to avoid when executing a bench press.

Watch the video: Experts in Motion: Bench form

Tip No. 1 – Stay down

You want to avoid lifting your head off the bench while pressing. Keep your head, bottom and back nice and flat on the bench.

Tip No. 2 – Good grip

Don’t go too wide or too narrow with your grip. Having your hands too far apart or too close together can be hard on your shoulders and/or wrists. Keep your grip nice and even.

Tip No. 3 – Stay grounded

Avoid lifting your feet off the ground while benching. Keeping your feet flat on the ground will help you push heavier weight.

If you follow these tips – keep your head flat on the bench, grip even and feet on the floor – you will prevent injury and discomfort and optimize your weight-lifting performance.
