Dena Jacquay, Chief Administrative Officer, offers a senior leader’s perspective on a new initiative used to leverage co-worker feedback and improve overall culture and job satisfaction.
The Listening Tours originally came from some of the feedback we heard in our very first culture survey, which is sent to all employees. We really wanted to find a way that we could connect more personally with co-workers. The thought of being heard and connected to the organization is invaluable.
We start the session by understanding who's in the room. Then we discuss everyone’s best day at Parkview. We collect the words they use. And then co-workers share the story of their best days. So, we get into the heart of what happened. There have absolutely been tears and times when we’ve cried together. There’s a lot of human in healthcare after all, and that personal impact and passion are powerful.
With operational leaders in the room, hearing feedback, they’re able to take action, which leads to results and buy-in across the organization. The overall experience is very positive, personal and motivating.
The next phase
This year, leaders plan to start meeting with specific groups. While the Parkview Health retention rate is an impressive 90%, the goal is to break down that 10%, many of whom leave within their first year. Getting a group of co-workers, from different generations, roles and areas of the health system, all within their first year, will offer great insight.
Ultimately, we want to take care of our patients and give them the best customer service we possibly can. This starts by taking the best care of our team members we possibly can. It all impacts the patient experience. It's not one department. It's not one leader. We are all responsible for the culture.
