LAGRANGE, IND. – June 30, 2025 – Three graduating seniors and a college junior have each been awarded a $1,000 Parkview LaGrange Hospital scholarship as they pursue healthcare-related studies.
High school seniors Caraline Schackow, Kaleb Hagerman and Makenna Mynhier and college junior Katelyn Eash were selected to receive the scholarships, which are made possible by donations to the Parkview Health Foundation.
“These four deserving recipients really represent a bright future for healthcare,” said Heather Stanley, MSN, RN, NE-BC, vice president of patient care services, Parkview LaGrange and Parkview Noble hospitals. “They are motivated, focused on achievement and inspired to serve others. It’s a pleasure for us to present them with scholarships and help them along their path to careers that positively impact lives through patient care.”
Caraline Schackow, of Lakeland Junior-Senior High School, will begin studies in nursing or exercise science at Ball State University this fall. A strong performer, both academically and athletically, Schackow has been a three-sport athlete, serving as captain for both junior and senior years. She has also completed eight college courses, maintaining a GPA of 4.0 or higher, and achieved the honor of valedictorian of her graduating class. She has also served in many leadership roles, including Student Council president, National Honor Society president, and editor of the school yearbook for two years.
Kaleb Hagerman, of Lakeland Junior-Senior High School, will attend Trine University to study nursing. Hagerman felt called to a career in healthcare after an inpatient stay at Parkview Regional Medical Center during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I had an amazing physician and team of nurses who continuously checked on me and made me feel cared about,” Hagerman recalled. “I want to be like those nurses. I want to be looked up to and admired, just like I admired those nurses.”
Hagerman was a student in the Impact Institute’s Health Occupations Education Program, which prepares students for future careers in healthcare and gives them hands-on experiences in a variety of settings while still in high school. He also works as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Life Care Center of LaGrange and hopes to return to LaGrange County to continue his career in healthcare after college.
Makenna Mynhier, of Lakeland Junior-Senior High School, plans to attend IU Fort Wayne for nursing this fall. Mynhier has achieved impressive academic milestones at Lakeland, including Academic Honor Roll all four years and being chosen as Rising Star of Indiana for academic achievement during her junior year. Mynhier has acquired her mother’s passion for serving others as a nurse.
“I love interacting and connecting with people, especially when helping them. I want to continue in my mom’s footsteps,” she said.
Mynhier also is obtaining her license as a certified medical assistant (CMA) through the Impact Institute’s Health Occupations Education Program and works as a CNA.
In addition to selecting high school scholarship recipients, Parkview LaGrange Hospital awarded an additional $1,000 adult learner scholarship to Katelyn Eash. Eash is a rising junior at Indiana Wesleyan University, where she is majoring in nursing with the addition of a certificate in child advocacy. She aspires to a career in oncology or obstetrics.
Eash’s passion for nursing developed as she observed the care two of her close family members received as they battled cancer.
“Many nurses throughout my grandma’s and my father’s treatments have been tremendous as they are very personable and genuinely show compassion in their work,” she said. “The way these nurses have cared for my family inspires me to want to show compassion to those I will provide care for in my future as a nurse.”
Eash is a Prairie Heights Junior/Senior High School alumna and a graduate of the Impact Institute’s Health Occupations Education program who previously won a Parkview LaGrange scholarship in 2023 as a high school student. She began her healthcare career as a patient care technician at Parkview LaGrange Hospital (PLH) and intends to return to Parkview Health to serve patients in northeast Indiana.
The scholarship program is administered by Parkview Health Foundation. Scholarship winners are selected by a review committee comprising foundation leaders and leaders at PLH. Up to four scholarships are available each year for three high school students and one adult learner.
