CARMEL, IND. – July 30, 2025 – Parkview Health and Ortho NorthEast (ONE) leaders announced today that they are expanding access to high-quality care for Indiana residents with the opening of an orthopedic office in the Carmel/Westfield area this summer. The office is the pair’s first facility in Hamilton County and their southernmost location so far in Indiana.
Robert G. Klitzman, MD, an ONE surgeon, will begin caring for patients in mid-August at the office, 14535 Hazel Dell Parkway, Number B, Suite 100, Carmel.
"Our partnership with ONE continues to make possible more opportunities to offer high-quality, specialized orthopedic care to an ever-growing number of communities," said Dr. Alan McGee, president, Parkview Health Orthopedics. "We are excited to open an office in the Indianapolis metro area, particularly with an expert partner such as Dr. Klitzman. He brings impressive skills plus an intense lifelong interest in sports and the challenges of keeping athletes in competitive form. He will be a great partner and motivator for patients looking to get back to an active lifestyle following injury, surgery or illness.”
A University of Oklahoma alumnus who graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in zoology, Klitzman went on to earn his medical degree from the university’s medical school, located in Oklahoma City. Following medical school, he headed to Chicago for a general surgery internship and orthopedic residency at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. He received additional fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Board-certified in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine, Klitzman is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Klitzman has worked for IU Health and served on the faculty of IU School of Medicine, where he has conducted research, led training for residents and fellows, provided administrative oversight for residency and fellowship committees, and served in various roles in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, including chief of service for sports and chief of arthroscopic simulator education. He was also an assistant clinical professor in the departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Family Medicine, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). He continues as an instructor for the primary care sports fellowship associated with IU.
He has been a reviewer for the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine since 2012.
Klitzman has served as team orthopedic surgeon for Indiana University Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI, now IUI) since 2011. For 13 years, he also served as team orthopedic surgeon for multiple Indianapolis-area high schools – including IPS, Ben Davis, Speedway and Pendleton Heights. In addition, he provided pre-participation sports physicals for high school athletes.
Dr. Klitzman’s Carmel/Westfield practice will focus largely on sports medicine and arthroscopy, particularly shoulder and knee arthroscopy. Shoulder procedures will address rotator cuff damage, instability and impingement. Common knee procedures will include ACL reconstruction, meniscus work and cartilage surgery.
For individuals with general orthopedic and musculoskeletal concerns that may not require the specialized procedures above, Klitzman can assess and refer patients for physical therapy or other non-surgical treatments.
Klitzman will see patients in the office and perform surgical procedures at Riverview Health Noblesville Hospital.
His interest in athletic performance and health began early. Active in sports during his childhood in Churubusco and later, Winamac, Indiana, Klitzman received injuries that sent him to an orthopedic surgeon followed by physical therapy.
“This sparked my interest,” Klitzman said. “Then when I went to college, I worked with the University of Oklahoma basketball team. I got to know the team doctors and thought I would enjoy a job like theirs. I also spent two summers during college working for the Chicago Bulls strength and conditioning team and was there for the last championship year. All these experiences led me toward a career in orthopedics and sports medicine.”
“I really enjoy seeing an athlete get back to their sport,” he continued. “Whether it be someone involved in high school, college or professional sports, or a weekend warrior. I get the greatest satisfaction when they are back to doing what they love to do or what keeps them healthy.”
Outside the office, Klitzman is a committed runner. He tries to get out for a run every day, appreciating the stress relief that running offers. He has competed in several marathons.
Dr. Klitzman can be reached at 317-804-1020. Hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.
