Why FitKids360?
  • One child out of every three in the United States is overweight.
  • Overweight children are at an increased risk for serious medical problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes—now and for the rest of their lives.
  • Kids in low socioeconomic and minority populations have a heightened risk for obesity, but sedentary lifestyles and poor diets make all children vulnerable.
  • The FitKids360 program is innovative and evidence-based, with health assessments, ongoing support, and incentives.
  • We promote lifestyle change with education, guidance, inspiration, and encouragement.
  • We measure the effectiveness of the FitKids360 program through ongoing data collection and analysis.
  • Our long-term goal is to establish a robust community-wide effort to sustain a healthier culture.
  • One hundred percent of FitKids360 program participants indicated that they learned valuable information about healthy living—including eating, exercise, and behavior.
  • One hundred percent of FitKids360 participants reported that they would recommend the program to others.
How does FitKids360 work?
  • It starts with a data collection appointment, during which we meet with participants to complete standardized measurements and assessments to learn about each family’s lifestyles and routines.
  • After the initial appointment, participants have a two-hour orientation followed by seven weeks of programming.
  • Sessions are one evening per week for two hours.
  • Classes combine basic education about nutrition, behavior, and exercise with fun activities like games, dance, yoga, and cooking.
  • Kids, parents, and guardians attend classes together but may have separate activities.
What kind of commitment does FitKids360 entail?
  • Kids and their parents or guardians attend all sessions and are fully committed to the program.
  • Parents and guardians get involved, stay involved, provide support, and make vital changes.
  • Everyone consistently participates in class and stays committed to the program throughout the week.
Who leads FitKids360?
  • FitKids360 is led by experts and supported by the community—it is created by community health organizations and is overseen by pediatricians or healthcare providers, registered dietitians, behavioral health experts, exercise specialists, personal trainers, registered nurses, and fitness instructors.
  • A quality curriculum is developed and managed by trained facilitators to ensure that FitKids360 is a consistent, effective program.
